Even those who don’t know me outside of this blog or some forum, have probably seen this coming.
My interest has been decreasing and decreasing ever since last spring.
Obviously, I’m not talking about my interest in Japan, Japanese, the Japanese, J-ent, SMAP, etc. I’m talking about my interest in being a part of the English-speaking/writing community that circles around the mentioned.

I knew that clips that I had had something to do with (either recording the program, just uploading or helping to translate/subtitle it) were being saved and sold forwards. I knew that translations, comments, whatever, are reposted, altered…you name it.
After some years’ break from the fandom I thought I could give it a try again. And thus, started this blog and actually got a bit active in some English-speaking boards.

But as I said to someone then, the absurdness of it all and the annoyance I feel towards things like fanfiction and constant arguing, rumour mills, lack of perspective and respect (let it be towards the entertainment or fellow fans) that are behind every corner, they would probably just get worse and worse and make it hard for me to stay around.
I hate, absolutely hate being wrong. How I wished that I would be.

This is a book (photo by Sara, cover edited by me) that is being sold in some parts of Asia (I think mainly in Philippines and Malaysia). It includes 50 pages of lyric translations from popular pop acts like SMAP, KAT-TUN, Tohoshinki/Dong Bang Shin Ki, Big Bang, Super Junior, Fahrenheit… the list goes on.
Some of my work is in there too, without any permission or credit. So are many other translators’, I’m sure.

So, in short, after seeing that and failing a Japanese course last autumn because something I had put in my portfolio was found online, I’m off.
Daily blogging is still on in ameblo, and some safe-deemed entries here in fc2 (yes, mostly in Japanese and which is also where the unlikely, but maybe possible, future lyricwork will be), but this will not be updated anymore.

When something gets as big as the Asian “culture waves”, it attracts all kinds of people. And also, money comes into the picture.
The reasons are various (and mentioned above), but this was the last straw.

I won’t delete this blog, that still stands.
Some people I’ve met have been real darlings. Most of you I’ll still meet in JDF or 2ch. We’ll see about JPM.
Any others I’ve associated with closely wanting to keep in touch, you know my mail address.

Regardless of the nature of this post, I would like to wish everyone a good new year 2009.

NHK’s Music Japan is airing a 東方神起-special on November the 30th, and the MJ-director 英米 [Eibei?] wrote a teaser-entry about it in the EYES-blog.

First he introduces himself and mentions that 東方神起 participated in MJ’s 「恋うた2008」 [Koiuta 2008] a little while ago (November the 14th, for those who have already forgotten) and uses this opportunity to thank the audience of the event.

The broadcast-date of the MJ 東方神起-special is coming closer.
The usually laugh-filled talk leading to singing and dancing turned this time very loaded with 東方神起 doing serious self-study.
All in all it’s a whole 49-minute broadcast for the viewers to enjoy.

This time, 東方神起 will perform two songs for the first time on television.
The first one is their newest song, a cool dance number, 「呪文」 [Jumon] and the other is their hit song, wonderful ballad 「Love in the Ice」.
The second one is a heart-wrenching and desperate song, and even moreso when they will perform the full version of it, total duration 5:20.
A broadcast to treasure.

The results of the 「Performances I want to see again」 -voting (deadline for voting was November the 25th), will be revealed and the top5 of that ranking will be broadcasted.

Furthermore, there will be two more special segments.

1: 「東方神起とタコ焼きを作ろう！」 [Let's make takoyaki with Tohoshinki!]
where the members participate in the “original takoyaki”-challenge.
This takes a totally unpredicted course, when Junsu…

2: 「東方神起の韓国語講座」 [Tohoshinki's Korean language course]
where the members teach some useful Korean expressions.
These are definitely practical in real life.

Music Japan‘s 東方神起-special airs November the 30th, airing time 15:05-15:54.
Be sure not to miss it!

JPM, then again, is another story.
It’s not a discussion forum to JDF’s extent, but more than often functions chat-like, and has its good points.
The site’s had big problems for almost two weeks now, and now.. well, let’s say it’s not usable atm.
Most likely it won’t be fixed in a blink of an eye.

I have now good reasons to go and really focus on writing the thesis, when the only English speaking forums (JDF if 50% English anyway) I actually use are out of business.
(Or, you can try to tell me to join another one. Or not.)

So instead of PMs, use the gmail or a comment in here.
Oh. And why do I have such a.. thing with the categories? Confusing.

I don’t know whether or not we’ll be subbing the newest PV, but I’d like to think we’ll do one of the lives. There’ve been a lot anyway.

SMAP perform a wonderful, wonderful summer medley with the Japanese household name TUBE.

This medley is like a picture of SMAP: There are sparkles, colourful shirts, pretty women, dancing, total frolicking, and you can feel the summer joy. SC continues in Osaka, and テゴマス [Tegomass] is still there.


The opening song is 「きっと大丈夫」 of 嵐, and the theme for the episode 「SMILE」.
Medley continues with KAT-TUN’s 「喜びの歌」, TOKIO’s 「花唄」 (..they went and stole my grandmother’s gardines for those outfits?), Kanjani’s 「ワッハッハー」, NEWS’s 「Cherish」 and HSW’s 「Dreams Come True」.

Tegomass-talk.
They talk about smiling and laughing. Masuda seems to be smiling the most in NEWS, but Shige is the one who makes the other members crack up – even if he doesn’t mean to
And Tesshi continues where the last week’s episode stopped: he is amused – in a superior way. Masuda laughs by himself in his radio show and Tesshi proves (..once again), that he’s a ladies’ man.

Tegomass does 「アイアイ傘」 and is joined by Koyama to perform 「weeeek」.
When the song was released, I complained about Tesshi not getting enough solo-lines, even though he sings about 80% of the song anyway (FYI, the boy did double back-vocals all by himself to the song). But he just sounds so good.

HeiseiPost in Osaka. Nakayama ends up doing some pitching (he starred in the baseball-drama “Battery” that got fairly good reviews last season), but does he destroy a camera or a fellow-junior’s hairdo?

舞闘冠 [Butoukan] has a special stage.
Acrobatics, to-the-end rehearsed choreography by Yara and cool dancing.
Followed by, of course, 「Sweet Butterfly」.
Tsuka-chan is out of rhytm at times, but you won’t notice it if you don’t pay attention. Yamamoto keeps impressing me with his smooth moves, and Bun-chan with his voice.
Yara impresses me anyway, so

Junior League. Aru?Nashi? -battle with Osaka-theme.
Nakamaru is the judge and gives some guidelines how it’s going to be with abusing the button during introductions.
Someone asked for the questions, so basically they wanted to hear what kind of people you can see
- in school in summer
- in the sea in summer
- in Osaka in summer
Nakamaru kind of.. stole the show with his choices (Subaru last time, anyone?).

Some juniors talk about the theme.
Then Nakamaru performs his DUES-solo 「SMACK」.

Kansai-junior Q.
Their idols. They pick Yamashita, Hamanaka Bunichi (he’s such a.. I don’t have an English word for that), Yara, Yokoyama Yu, to talk about. I cast a glimpse on the board, and there were f.e. bot of KinKi, Nishikido Ryo, Akanishi Jin, Kanjani’s Maruyama..

Osaka Juniors do a rock-medley with 「maze」, 「LIPS」 (this destroyed the mood, actually. It’s not like I believe Katsun either when they sing that they want to kiss the woman so violently they’ll break the red color of her lips, but when these boys do it.. *snicker*.) and 「Romantic」.

The ending theme is Japanese version of Bon Jovi’s 「Next 100 Years」, where the juniors get joined by Tesshi and Masuda (and in the end, Butoukan and the MCs).
Notice Tesshi doing the ad-libs (and being heard through everyone else ).

Next month has Shige replacing Nakamaru as an MC (because the filming crashed with KAT-TUN’s concerts) and none of the older juniors. And HSW is there.

Shounen Club goes to Osaka and gets テゴマス [Tegomass] as guests.


We begin with 「SUNRISE日本」 and introing the Kansai-juniors.
The theme is (surprisingly, or not) SUMMER, and the SUMMER-medley goes on as following:
Takitsuba’s 「Ho! Summer」, GYM’s 「Fever to Future」, KinKi’s 「ギラ☆ギラ」, KAT-TUN’s 「PEAK」 with Nakamaru and Butoukan-boys minus Yara. And the closing is of course NEWS’s 「SUMMER TIME」, performed by Koyama and Tegomass (except that they somehow end up being Tesshi + back-up singers ).

Tegomass talk-part has a relaxed feeling. Tesshi and Koyama poke each other, and Masuda and Nakamaru are also friends behind the scenes, so it’s kind of heart-warming.
Masuda’s answers are (as always) kind of.. “huh?” (air conditioner pops up again), and it greatly amuses me how Tesshi is just laughing at people.
Nakamaru also gets put down because of his image.
Then the duo perform their new single 「アイアイ傘」.
I am a fan of Tesshi’s voice, and here’s one more proof why.
He’s grown up to be such a fine idol.

One more HSW-group. Hey!Say!7 WEST with Nakayama Yuuma. Flip-boards about summer memories.
And then Nakayama Yuuma’s special medley.
「circle」 (this is THE song Tackey used to perform, also with Yamashita. Screams memories for me.) and 「ジタバタ純情」.

Junior League.
I don’t actually have much to say, except that the amount of failure is.. (from forgetting the names to.. challenging Masuda in armwrestling) big. The traditional juniors showing their “special abilities” off.

Butoukan. Priceless.
Senga cries when sea turtle lays eggs. And then Yara, because he’s a good sempai (read: a terrible bully <3), makes Senga demostrate it.
So stupid. Oh so stupid. But so funny
「C= Normal」 with Yara’s fabulous choreography. I miss MA, but if this is what I’m getting instead, I’m certainly not complaining.

- Koyama lipsyncs 「Private Hearts」.
Don’t really have any other comment than that this makes me always snigger because it’s even more awkward than Goro dancing, and well yes.
Koyama did this in NEWS’ Pacific-tour (DVD’s coming out in a few).
- The letters.
