Comments about the weekly:
Huge gongratulations for 青山 Thelma reaching 50k! Also Matchy-san passing 40k is very nice. 倖田來未 sold less than one could have expected, but this is due to her album ‘Kingdom‘, which will be out tomorrow and probably sell.. really well.
Also, side note for Acid Black Cherry. ‘冬の幻’ is still #13 and sold 7,5k. So they’ve now reached 47k in two weeks. Nice for the soon-coming album ‘BLACK LIST.

For albums, ZARD‘s one is wonderful as expected with this material. But I hope they’ll stop cashing with her death now after this.
コブクロ rules. Seriously rules. Again 80k sold for ’5296′ (#2) and 15,5k for ‘ASB’ (#13). Talking about a grip on Japanese charts..
東方神起 did good. My 60k-predictation was a bit optimistic, but if we count tomorrow’s (30/01) sales there too, it’s actually quite close! Comparing ‘T’-sales to the ones FITB got, is however very unwise. When FITB came out, the boys were total nobodies in the music business in Japan. Their popularity rose after Lovin’ You (that was absolutely deserved!). And now they’ve gained a solid exposure in Japanese media-field and quite a notable fanbase. T-sales seem to be diving (#11 today) in the Toho-style, but I hope the upcoming live-tour will encourage people to buy the album. Anyhow, a top-4 in Oricon weekly albums is something to be proud of!

#2 30,003 東方神起 – T [Tohoshinki]
#3 20,182 コブクロ – 5296 [Kobukuro]

As for the albums, gongratulations to 東方神起! ‘T‘ outsold ‘FITB’ on it’s first day. FITB ended up selling about 27k all in all, and ‘T‘ passed the 30k -mark straight away.
Now we’ll just have to see if their album will have as drastic drops as their singles. I’d like them to get around 60k on their first week, though. Thumbs up, everyone!
(I got my album two days before the actual release (amazon likes me, apparently ;) ), and aside 2-3 tracks, it’s a good album with variation in styles.

ZARD topping the list is no surprise. I think we all know why. And no one in their right mind will question the quality of this album.

コブクロ still going strong? Definetely, and they deserve it! We’ll see how the Toho-boys will cope with it (and Bank Band) the next days.

wow, your list is amazing!

how to obtain actual sales numbers, when oriocn only gives out the points (?)
i am seeing different numbers everywhere..but I am glad that T is doing so well ^^

I used to list sales up more often, but lately I just haven’t had time or interest.

Yes, Oricon-site only gives the sales-points for the top-3 albums and singles daily (that are usually published around 13:00 GMT).

If you want to count the points out to be real (estimated, of course!) sales numbers, you have to take the album-points times 1.70 and the singles-points times 1.75.
This is because not every record shop faxes their daily sales to Oricon, so the 0.7/0.75 “extra” there is to cover up for those shops.
So it is fairly simple with some multiplying ;)

Very often (esp. by people who are not familiar with Japanese charts and the ways they work) I see the numbers from Oricon taken directly as copy-numbers, which is wrong

I laid my bet out of T’s 1st week-sales to be around 60k last week, and if the boys’ promotions pick up this weekend, I might actually have been right (again^^).

Ah, I understand now. Thanks alot for the explaination ^^

And you are absolutely right, I have only seen the Oricon points in updates, and even in wikipedia D: You are first person I has gotten it right.

I really appreciate you listing these. And I sooo do hope your prediction IS right! They are working hard eh…I hope they reach their target. Porr junsu has to do promotions all alone.

thanks for keeping the post updated ^^
lol, I have been passing your link around in alot of different places xD

Comment by luffa

No problem, I used to do this very often.
I thought it was weird that this page’d got so many clicks. That explains it then ;)

Well, T dropped quite a bit for the weekend now, ending up in #8. However, they sold almost 40k in the first two days and I’d expect them to have had about 5k on both days 3-4, so that’d be 50k already.
So thumbs up for 60k!
